About Emmanuel church

From humble beginnings...

Nearly forty years ago the Lord called together a small group of faithful believers. From humble beginnings in a garage, this group grew to what Emmanuel Church has become today.

We all seek to grow for His glory and honour. What a joy to see the work of God in so many lives.

Reformed

By this we mean that we hold to the tenets of the Reformation:

- That we know and experience God through the Bible alone;
- That salvation is by God’s grace alone
- That this salvation is achieved in and through Christ alone, and is brought to us through the Holy Spirit alone
- That we are saved by faith in Christ alone (and not by works)
- That the glory belongs to God alone

Evangelical

This means we want all people to hear the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, that they might respond to Him, live for Him and grow in Him. It is a desire to reach those who are lost and to teach them about Christ, that they too may reach out.

Anglican

This means we are identified with a particular historical and traditional standpoint. However, this particular expression must be kept in check with the Bible. Amongst other things, we support:

- Infant Baptism (the baptism of believer’s children)
- Episcopal Church government (bishops, ministers, etc)
- Normative Priniciple (that the church has the liberty to be creative with its expression as long as it is not against what is clearly taught in the Bible).
- Liturgical Worship (joining in fellowship in songs, confessions and creeds in line with the 1662 Book of Common Prayer)

Note

Whereas we are an Anglican Church, C.E.S.A. is not to be confused with the C.P.S.A. (Church of the Province in South Africa). The historical differences between these churches are discussed here. You may also consider the C.E.S.A. webpage for further information.
